A Digital Asset Management system

European Parliament

Creativity and cloud

Alligence - in partnership with British Telecom (BT) - was awarded the framework contract to create and maintain the all–important web portal for the European Parliament’s Audiovisual Unit. While BT provided the infrastructure, Alligence was responsible for the creation and the development of the application from A to Z, using ADAM – a renowned digital asset management system as its underlying engine.

Platform with a vision

The AV’s web platform targets the general public and the press (TV stations, journalists…) and centralises all audiovisual material of the European Parliament for easy proliferation. It can and needs to do it all: from managing all the audiovisual facilities of the Parliament to supporting all audiovisual journalists covering the institution from outside or from within the European Parliament; from providing content as well as technical services.

Offering second to none

The services offered via the website include coverage of plenary and committee meetings, integrating the events presented on the EU satellite service EbS (Europe by Satellite), as well as audio recordings of meetings and events and photo reports. The website offers an immensely powerful search engine with a host of smart filters that make finding the needed footage, picture or sound bite a breeze, as well as a highly performing personal FTP zones for the delivery of ready to broadcast footage.

Facilitating medium

Via the AV Unit’s website the EP provides a wide range of facilities free of charge to all accredited audiovisual journalists wanting to cover the activities of the institution both in Strasbourg and in Brussels: a brand new state-of-the-art TV Studio, radio and multimedia studios, editing facilities and electronic newsgathering (ENG) crews.

A good place to start

For Alligence and BT winning this 4-year contract is the perfect place to start. Even though we had extensive experience communicating for the Commission and its various DGs, venturing out into the realm of the workings of the Parliament is a first for us. We believe we managed to combine what we consider the best that is out there in terms of creative, technical and interactive solutions and fold it into a state-of-the-art website, while getting get a close-up and personal view of the inner workings of the European Parliament. When you are interested, it is the perfect place for you to start as well.
